 It seems this is a gallery that can be seen by anyone with a link to any of the pictures....

You can setup permissions for the gallery based on membergroup that would restrict who has access to the pictures.
There is also permissions of categories on membergroup level as well.

But if they have a direct link to the file they can see the image but they can only find that link if they see the image themselves. You can disable sharing by turning off show bbc link, show direct link to the file under settings
