Impressions still counting when ad disabled?

Last week I was asked to suspend an ad because of legal concerns about the advertiser.

Not wishing to delete the ad, as the legal concerns are likely to be spurious and the ad would have to be reinstated, I simply edited it, removing all locations and unchecking all boards.

At that time the impressions count was 27,092

Looking at it today the impressions count has gone up to 32,208 despite it never having been shown since I disabled it.

How can this happen?

Removing all locations should do that.
To be safe you can set the ad impressions for the campaign down to jut 1 and that should force stop it as well.

Hmm, still puzzled as to why. I had hoped to re-activate the ad and have it resume where it left off. Reseeting to 1 would rather ruin that.
