Sending Mail: Campaigns & Single Messages
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:19:40 pm »
Hello,

Our group has recently purchased Newletter Pro and we've run into a few problems:

1:  Trying to send an email to ~1000 forum members (this method works when sending to a lower amount of people... like 20.) when we goto: Main > News and Newsletters > Newsletters we see the following error:

Code: [Select]
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3907347 bytes) in /usr/www/group/public/Sources/Load.php on line 2686
I have checked phpinfo and see the following:
memory_limit   128M / 128M

The Send Mail Queue then only has ~180 of the 1,000 people in there.  The other 80% are never added.

I have UNCHECKED Disable administration security.

2: I have then tried to setup a campaign to a group which contains 19 members. I set the campaign to send 10 minutes into the future.  The campaign runs at, or just after the set time, and shows up in the 'reports' section.  send_email_campaign DOES run every 4 minutes as shown by the task log.  No emails are ever received by the Campaign.  No emails are in the send mail queue.

My SMF Email settings are set to send via php and have ensured SMTP fields are empty.  At the start of /index.php i have also included ini_set('memory_limit', '128M'); on a new line following <?php.
We are using cloudflare with 'basic' CDN / caching.  Pretty URLs is set to ignore the 'admin' action.

Any suggestions to:

1: Get the single email send tool to work.
2: Get campaigns to work at all.

Thanks,

TheD

128mb is too low you need to raise try it errored out since 128mb was the max
ini_set('memory_limit', '300M');

#2 What type of scheduled task do you have running?

Thank you for the quick reply.

1:phpinfo reports: memory_limit reports 350M for Local and 128 for Master. I've changed it also via .htaccess

2: It looks like the idea behind a Campaign is to schedule a task (send an email newsletter) in the future. Correct?  So I created a Campaign (task) to send a newsletter at a later time and it looks like no emails are ever sent.  If this is not correct can you elaborate a bit on what Campaigns are used for, or how to use them?

Edit 1: I am using newest SMF, 2.0.4.

Edit 2: bumping up to 350MB worked, but then the script just timed out.  I also upped the timeout to 700 seconds from within the news php file.   By doing the instant send message I was able to add 257 message to the mail queue... then it just died.  Is there a way to actually do an instant newsletter with more than just a few names?

Edit 3: I was able to get the Campaign to send send once. It was set to go to 19 people... for some reason it just worked.  No idea why.  Haven't been able to duplicate it at all... removing all short cuts {$member.name}, for example, for the subject hasn't mattered.  It just won't send again.

Edit 4: Raised it to 350M and 1000 second timeout. Then I exported all email addresses via the script which was posted in another thread and added them to a custom list. When I sent the newsletter  I got a message stating that the full 350MB had been used:  Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 367001600 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16777216 bytes) in /usr/www/group/public/Sources/Load.php on line 2686

This shouldn't be the case.  Is there any solution?  Adding ~250 messages a time to the mail queue is not doable.

I would need to really need to look into your hosting situation which mods are installed hard to say the exact cause without looking it deeply but seems like something is eating up the memory..
I have sent over 40k emails at a time with the newsletter system.
