Top Photos / Featured Photos block on Header
« on: August 25, 2013, 07:03:37 am »
I have search for it here and didn't found it.

What I would like to have is something similar to the Recent Images add-on http://www.smfhacks.com/index.php/topic,163.0.html but for the photos that had more ratings. With the volume of new photos coming in, the "Recent Images" is always changing and some of the best recent photos are not visible. A block that could be added simultaneous with the "Recent Images" on the Header of the first page that would allow to see the Weekly or Monthly Top Rated Photos would be great and would add an better look to the initial page of the site (great pics always attract people).

If this could be developed, it would be great.

I could do it. So the highest rated pictures by month/week?

Yes. I thought on having the ones with more likes on Facebook but I think that would be just too hard to do so I guess the ones that are Top Rated would be best.

I wanted this to be cumulative with the Recent Images, so it would have 2 top bars on the main page.

Would be great if this could be also supported on the Homepage of ezPortal.

Any news on this? It would be perfect if it could also be used with ezPortal.

My current gallery has having many uploads lately and it would be great to showcase the top rated ones (also would be good to showcase the top viewed and top commented). I had in mind even have one ezBlock with 3 photos, the top rated, top commented and top viewed of the month/week.

With all this (great) new developments on the gallery, could this be implemented? My experience shows me that the Top Rated and Top Commented tends to be the same because they stand out from the newest photos as they are more visible. So, a Weekly/Monthly Top Rated and Top Commented would surely give the deserve feature for those new photos appearing.

i was thinking about this a little bit this morning
would it be based on last seven days/ last 30 days
or the current week sunday to saturday/ current month

the only issue i have with the time based blocks is they could be empty

The best was to have both "Last 30 days" and Monthly (August/September/etc). The blocks can be used or not according to each one preferences (just like Top Rated doesn't make sense for those that are not using rates). Initially I though this as a Header block but if it could be a Gallery Block just like the Top Rated, Most commented and remaining. The way that Top Rated or Commented are at this moment, must seem to be a lost battle to most members since they feel that they will never reach to a point were they will be featured.

The Monthly could make more sense in the "Top Gallery Members" tho. Member could "battle" to be the one with more photos uploaded, more comments or more ratings given, increasing that way the activity. If they could see that they were in front in that month, they could be returning more often to remain on top until the end of it.

Btw, I also posted on ezPortal site since some of these I would like to have also on ezBlocks. It's not my intentation to duplicate requests but I was not sure how to handle the SMF Gallery Pro requests with ezPortal ones.
