I have an active SMF forum with a very full avia media gallery.  I'd like to switch to SMF Gallery Pro.
Will I lose all my pictures and comments from our current gallery or can SMF G-Pro pull them over from my current gallery?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
~Cindy

Another question - sort of along the same lines.  Although this may be the wrong forum to post this in.  Please point me to the right place if I've stepped over a line!

- Can I hire someone here to do the software load/and conversion?

I can do it for you no cost. The conversion is pretty simple we just run the conversion script after having the SMF Gallery Pro installed.

Awesome news!  I'm currently running SMF 2.0.5 and have been having a heck of a time trying to upgrade to newest version.  Do I need to have the forums upgraded to 2.0.7 before going with Gallery Pro?

I'm just trying to make sure I get all my upgrades accomplished in the smoothest order possible to cut down on glitches.  I'm frustrated over several little bits and pieces not working.  Probably need to uninstall all mods and start fresh.  This might be the right time to do that.

I'm also looking at your Community Suite product.  Thinking it would add some awesome options for me.  If I opt to go that route now rather than just the Gallery Pro - Can that batch of products all be installed by your folks too?

And again - do I need to resolve my 2.0.5 to 2.0.7 issue before adding the Community Suite?

You do not need to upgrade to  the latest version of SMF 2.0.5 will be fine.
2.0.7 update was mainly for PHP 5.5 fixes but unneeded if you are not using that version.

All the products I make work with any SMF version so the mods in the Community Suite will be work fine with your SMF version and all make very minor theme edits except for Ad Seller Pro so they are all easy toinstall with the package manager. But if you do need help installing them on your forum we can do it would just require an admin account on the forum/ftp access.

Excellent.  Thank you very much for your time today.

I want to get this .05 to .07 thing fixed and review my current mods.  Maybe get rid of some mods and glitchiness before making this change.  Hopeful to not experience even more glitches.

Then I'll pop back over here (either today or tomorrow) to pick up the Community Suite.

Good Stuff!  Awesome customer service you are providing too! Kudos to you for sure!!!

Cheers,
~Cindy

Oops - I have two other questions about the gallery product.

1.  In my current gallery we have many linked images rather than uploaded images.  (i.e. the pic resides on someone else's server).  I didn't see where this was an option in your SMF gallery.  If that's not an option in your gallery product - during conversion from my AVIA to your Gallery pro, how are the linked images treated?

2.  I have pictures from my gallery linked into my forum postings using the AVIA ('SMG id' tags).  How will this affect what does/doesn't show in my forums after the Gallery Pro install/conversion?

I just want to make sure I prepare my site for the best/easiest conversion possible.  Thank you.

1. Unknown didn't know aeva supports linked images can look into it. Would need example links in the gallery of the linkedi images. And could try to modify the convertor script to either save the image from the remote server. Or look into adding to the gallery linked image option. The main issue with linked images is there is no way to create a thumbnail/medium image unless we save a copy of the image to the gallery itself

2. At the moment  would not do anything with the special tags I supposed they would remain if you leave aeva installed bu hidden or the tag will just show nothing if aeva is uninstalled.

hhmmmmm.... this is good to know as it will make a big difference in my case.  Not a game changer.  Might leave me with a mess to clean up though. Moving onward anyway.

In the mean time if you are looking at possible work arounds for the linked images, note that the linked images we have, currently include a thumbnail/medium image for them.  So maybe the Aeva database fields holding those images would be helpful.  Which makes me wonder if the linked images options I've encouraged my members to use - really isn't saving me much on the server space side of the house anyway? LOL

Oh the wonderful places my wee brain will have to travel as I tackle these changes.

I'm pressing forward toward updating/changing to use your product suite.  If you think of anything I can do at my end (or provide to you from my end) that might make the gallery conversion go smoother, please do email me or PM me here.  I'm thinking I'm going to need a week to prepare rather than a day.

Okay..... REALLY moving on to other stuff now.  Thank you!!!

If avea already has the medium/thumbnail that makes it a lot easier.
Is there any reason why you needed linked images? If not we can just save them to gallery by downloading a copy of them. Plus this will keep the gallery items intact in case one of those third party images sites/server goes offline then your gallery always has copy of them.

If you do not have any limits on diskspace or not anywhere close to going over your limit I would highly suggest just storing the files instead.
