The future of Badge awards
« on: October 26, 2014, 03:04:00 am »
What I find bothersome about this mod is that it's generally annoying. Oftentimes the member will be bombarded with email after email about new awards earned. I recently started a test account on my forum account and used the forum like a new member would, and I wasn't very pleased. I think to improve on that, this modification either needs an option to give the end user the option to opt out of badge award emails OR a separate notification system that won't send a PM after each award, but will show a pop-up of some sort similar to what you'd find in eNotify. I know there is the option to opt out of PM per award, but it's not enough to curb the annoyance I believe.

Just a friendly rant.

This is a mod I want to update soon. Just need more ideas on how what to do next.
Notifications I agree can get annoying at times.

2.1 Alerts maybe?
I like this mod a lot, it's one of my favourites.

2.1 Alerts maybe?
I like this mod a lot, it's one of my favourites.

It would work perfectly with the notifications system, but no one is using 2.1 at the moment, so a makeshift notification system would be better like what we find in eNotify.

In terms of updating, perhaps create groups for similar awards, or have the admin create categories for similar awards. For example, I could create a category called Posting Milestone, then pick and choose which awards will go under this category i.e. all awards related to post count. That way awards are better organized in personal member lists and the main admin list.

I agree with the popup idea. I just question how it'll work for when they get multiple badges at once.

I had to stop using this mod because my users complained about that pm notification but it has so much potential (it's already great don't get me wrong).

Piggybacking on what shuban said, and my grid style question, maybe the next update can just have a slew of different sorting and viewing options for the badges?

You should have just disabled the sending of PMs instead of the whole thing. I removed PM notifications on all the annoying types, like searching a forum and posting a reply.
