Virus, malware, etc. protection for uploads via Download, gallery, etc.

Is there any protections in place to prevent a user with appropriate permissions to upload a file, image, etc. via the Download System Pro, SMF Gallery Pro, etc. with a virus or malware?

If so should I be concerned with it infection my site?

If not what are the best practices?

Require all uploads be approved and then have the admin download and scan for any issues?

Anything else?

There is no protection in place. You would need to worry more with downloads than the gallery.
You can look into third party software than scans your wehosting it would installed on a server level. Such as ClamAV.

If it becomes a problem you could have downloads require approved and you do a scan on your end but generally I would not worry about that unless your users tends to be that way.

I have no idea what my users are going to be like, you just never know, but thanks for the ClamAV tip. I'll look into it.
