Image Size, Permissions, and Updates questions
« on: June 18, 2007, 01:56:15 pm »
Ok, so I'm still working on evaluating a couple of galleries for my site and SMF Gallery is definately in the running.  I do have a couple of questions though.

1.  Are there intermediate image sizes, or just the thumbnail and the full version?

2.  When resizing images if I set a limit of 1024 for h or w, am I to understand that an image uploaded at 2000x2000 would be resized automatically to 1024x1024?  Is the original image retained?  (sorry two questions I know)

3.  Can different vieweing permissions be set for sub categories, or any category for that matter?

4.  Are permissions based on user group only, or can you have special user privledges?  i.e.  I have a user in a group that normally can't view a given category, but I want to give one user only permission to view that category.

5.  Finally, I understand that the pricing is currently set at $50/yr.  If I decide that version X has all of the features that I want, but a bug has been patched in a newer version, will I be forced to spend $50 again if it has been more than a year to get the bug fixed?  Or will there be updates on previous versions to patch holes and get rid of bugs?

Thank you in advance for answering my questions as best as possible.

So far, I really enjoy the ease of using the lite version and just need a little bit more power.

1. Thumbnail can be set to any size needed, and fullsize.
2. There is an option to resize an image if too large and then the size will be set to the max width, height of the image.

2b. Original image is not saved if it is resized.

3. Yes any category you can set viewing, adding, commenting permissions on them.

4. Permissions are based on groups only.

5. There would be a renewal fee after one year to get updates.
