Organizing Files on server
« on: October 09, 2015, 10:23:05 pm »
Does Download System Pro help at all to organize the files on the servers into categories?
I'm trying to understand how the files would get to the server in order to be downloaded.  Do they all have to be uploaded manually into folder that are created manually?
Are users able to upload files into the folders that other users would download from?

thanks.

Jim

No it does not organize files from the server. Basically it an upload system where you can upload files into categories then users can download the files.

Users can upload files in categories if you give them the add file permission.

There is a bulk import in the admin area where you would place all the files in the downloads/ftp folder then you can import them into a single category at a time.

I'm trying to understand how I should structure the file system for downloads.
I was able to upload one file and I saw it in downloads it seemed to have changed the file type.
All the files are added from the download mod I assume.  When is the FTP Folder used?

I saw that the gallery mod uses a folder in the root.  If I want to add different categories of file types like audio, movie, documents, etc, is it better to reate folders in the root or let the download mod handle them in the downloads folder?

Jim

Yes it changes the filename/extension for security reasons.

The ftp folder is used if you want to mass import files into the download system by uploading the files into that folder then in the admin of the download system go to the bulk import tab to import them into a category.

Now it's beginning to make sense.

Very cool and logical.

I can't find the bulk import tab on the demo forum.  Where is it, or do you need files in the ftp folder for it to appear?

It is not included in the demo forum. Yes you need files in the ftp folder.
