Just converted the table to InnoDB, and the performance difference is within the margin of error.

Hey, I just did some testing, and it seems the super long searches are only when EXIF search is activated.

I just did some diagnostics, and there is a huge issue with temporary tables.

I've increased memory limits way higher, and it's still not enough to combat the huge amount of swap that is happening in order to accommodate the huge temporary tables being created. It's resulting in disk I/O being hammered, which leads to the DB timing out.

It seems that certain searches are using join statements that are not indexed, which is resulting in these massive temporary tables.

I have not done much SQL, so I was wondering if the query or the indexes would have to be modified?

It's something with the joins not sure if it is mariadb issue it doesn't seem like it is seeing the indexes.

It's not likely a MariaDB issue as we were having this problem with mySQL as well.
