Big fan of the original pretty urls, and have been trying to learn how it works so I can extending it to other actions

Question -
Will this new/overhauled version natively support actions from more common modules such as TinyPortal? Currently running into issues with the older version where /forum is not being rewritten when presented to the user, so we still get url.com/index.php?action=forum, instead of url.com/forum.

If so, totally interested in purchasing.

Doesn't add more actions currently . I do have extra package at https://code.google.com/archive/p/prettyurls/downloads which adds some but have not tested it on the recent package.  If you do order I can work on that.

Sure totally down, I'll pick up either today/tomorrow -

Just thinking about framework vs. custom solution. Instead of having to write a bunch of custom support for other projects, how about a panel where we can commit to a rules database. Admin pastes in a specific link that isn't being served properly by default rules, allows them to split out the variables, and helps them visualize what the resulting prettyurl would be. After committing to the back end then then generates .htaccess rules and feeds into link rewriting on the served page.

Not knowing the inter-workings, I bet there are probably a bunch of hurdles. But hey! I'd also be fine with getting a quick rundown on the sections I need to add things to and just writing in the custom support for the extensions I'm working with myself. (and sharing :p)

Some good ideas. I look into the panel/rewriting your own custom rules form the mod itself. Just need to make sure their are good checks in place to make sure users do not break their forum.

however, I also definitely wouldn't be opposed to an update for the Extras package, especially one that covers AEVA Media, and TinyPortal entirely :p (especially if we can get the index.php removed when visiting the main page, and /forum support as part of the tinyportal block.
