How to display Items from Subcategories within Parent Category?

I have one very important qiestions concering classifieds (but same issue applies for downloads, links directory & store as well)

As the scripts are set by default, they will allow to have a parent category and within it subcategories.

Hopwever if we go to the display of a parent category it will only list items whoch have been directly placed into this PARENT category but will NOT display the items contained in the sub categories of this parent category.

I feel the better approach - like eBay does it as well - is to list / show ALL items when going to a parent category.

To give an example. Let's say we have the Parent Category

- Car Parts

Its Sub Categories are for example

 - Breaks
 - Tiers
 - Seat

Now going to the Parent Category "Car Parts" ought to show all items contained wihin:

- Car Parts (Parent Category) AND its Subcategories Breaks, Tiers, Seats

NOT Just the ones whoch had been directly placed into the Parent Category

I get the idea using the categories as kind of a filter option might work for the Classified and the Store mod.  I modeled the category system based on SMF's post/topic model where it is only visible inside the parent category. The store  mod has the option to put a product in multiple categories.


The changes required to make this happen though are hard with the current setup and would require major changes. It gets difficult going to sub sub categories.
